Helpful Snow Removal Reminders

Overnight Parking:  Per Town Ordinance, No parking allowed on any street or road within the Town between 2:00am and 6:00am from   November 1 through March 31 of each year.

Depositing of Snow in Rights-of-way: Residents and private contractors hired to plow snow from driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots may not deposit snow onto or plow snow across public streets or walkways.  Doing so is not only a violation of Town Ordinance and WI State Statute 346.94, but also slows plowing operations and creates dangerous conditions for vehicles and pedestrians.

Cul-de-Sacs: Cul-de-sacs are a very confined space and there is no practical way for the snowplow operator to cut off the windrow of snow when crossing driveways.  The Public Works Department's goal in clearing all streets is to maintain as much of the normal pavement width as possible, while at the same time, allow acceptable access to mailboxes for postal carriers.

Hydrants: As you shovel or push snow off your driveway and sidewalks, take time to clear the snow around fire hydrants (3-foot radius).  During a fire, every second counts!  Lawrence Fire Department appreciates your help!

Mailboxes: Operators are instructed to be very cautious near mailboxes. In most cases, a properly installed mailbox will permit a snowplow to clear the snow underneath. Most cases of damaged mailboxes are caused by heavy snow hitting the box. Mailboxes are seldom hit by the plow. The Town of Lawrence shall replace only mailboxes hit by the plow. Special decorative mailboxes and/or post will not be provided. If the owner wishes to install a decorative mailbox and/or post that meet standards, it shall be at the owner’s expense. Brick or stone around mail boxes is against the town ordinance. Do not place masonry materials around mail boxes.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as crews work to clear snow safely and effectively from our Town streets.  Depending on timing and severity of snow events, it may take several hours to clear all the snow.
